SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Sodick, a global leader in precision manufacturing technology, today announced the U.S. availability of AltForm advanced metal additive manufacturing systems backed by Sodick’s North American sales and service. The announcement marks a significant expansion of Sodick’s additive manufacturing portfolio and brings AltForm’s highly customizable laser-based machines to aerospace, defense, power generation, and industrial manufacturers across the United States. AltForm will make its IMTS debut at Booth 338640, where the company’s flagship Print Genius 400, its largest dual-laser powder bed fusion system, will be on display.
Rebranded from Prima Additive and operating as a Sodick company since 2024, AltForm brings with it a deep legacy in laser science and industrial additive manufacturing. Originally the additive division of the Prima Industrie Group, the AltForm team maintained its engineering identity and product roadmap through the transition — and now, backed by Sodick’s commercial reach and U.S. service capabilities, is positioned to serve the North American market for the first time at industrial scale.
AltForm’s product portfolio spans two core technology platforms built to work in concert: the Print Series for fine-detail, high-precision parts, and the ZENIT Cell for large structural components and repair work — giving aerospace and defense manufacturers a complete additive solution under one roof.
- Print Series: Laser Powder Bed Fusion (PBF)
The Print Series scales from the compact single-laser Print Sharp 100, built for research and dental applications, up to the quad-laser Print Brilliance 400 for high-volume industrial production. Unlike zoned competitor systems that restrict each laser to a fixed area, every AltForm laser can address the entire build area, eliminating seam-line quality issues. - ZENIT Cell: Direct Energy Deposition (DED) with Inert Gas Chamber
The ZENIT Cell handles large-scale metal production and repair with build volumes up to 1,600 x 1,200 x 700 mm, available in single-process, multi-process, and inert gas chamber configurations. It runs reactive aerospace alloys including titanium and aluminum, and extends the service life of high-value tooling and precision molds at a fraction of the cost of replacement.
AltForm’s defining characteristic is customization. Rather than selling from a fixed catalog, the company designs each system around the customer’s production requirements, materials, and facility layout, then pairs it with an AI-integrated human machine interface (HMI) that provides real-time parameter guidance and process optimization. Sodick will maintain critical spare parts inventory in the United States to support uptime and minimize lead times.
The lineup is built for industries where material performance and geometric complexity are non-negotiable: aerospace and defense, power generation, energy, oil and gas, and advanced industrial manufacturing.
