Field Service Engineer

Responsible for installing, servicing, and performing basic training on all Sodick machinery, the field service engineer will troubleshoot both electronic and mechanical problems that can occur on-site by using proper basic testing equipment.

Applications Engineer

Reporting to the General Manager and National Service manager, the applications engineer is responsible for sales and customer support, before and after the sale.

Position Highlight

Qualification: Must have, Preferred

  • Associate’s Degree in Electronics or equivalent experience is required.
  • Working knowledge of CAD / CAM system, materials, tooling, and end mills preferred.
  • Being able to read schematics along with the use of test equipment such as multimeter or oscilloscope is required.
  • Excellent customer service skills, including ability to maintain integrity and ethics in all conversations and actions with customers.
  • Self-motivated, able to work with little or no supervision and to calmly handle stressful situations when customers complain of equipment malfunctions.
  • Possess technical curiosity and ability to diagnose and solve production issues.
  • Detail-oriented and able to get work completed in a manufacturing environment.

Working hours

  • Normal Business Hours 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
  • Overtime and weekend work might be required.

Job Description
The Applications Engineer reports to the General Manager or National Service Manager and is responsible for sales and customer support. This includes before sale support through test cuts and demonstrations and after sale support through training, machine programming, problem solving and service. Applications Engineer usually specializes in a specific type of equipment, e.g. WEDM, EDM, Machining Center and 3D Metal Prtiner. Maintain integrity and ethics in all actions and conversations with customers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

35% of time - Program machine via CAD /CAM software to perform test cuts and generate test cut reports to aid in sales efforts.

20% of time - Perform machine demonstrations to customers, including programming and analyzing results.

15% of time - Provide on-site and off-site machine operation classes and training to new customers.

20% of time - Provide customers with continued technical support on machine setup, programming and operations.

5% of time - Use analysis and testing to assist customers in identifying machine problems and finding solutions.

4% of time - Coordinate weekly application work schedule with Application Manager.

1% of time - Participate in industry trade shows.


Non-Essential / Marginal Responsibilities
Help maintain the appearance of showroom and sustain machinery in demonstration ready condition.


Education, Experiance and other Qualifications

1. High School Diploma required.

2. 5 – 7 years of hands on Sinker EDM and Wire EDM experience, including programming, setup and machine operations preferred.

3. CAD/CAM training preferred.

4. Excellent customer service skills, including ability to maintain integrity and ethics in all conversations and actions with customers.
