IMTS 2026 featured Sodick’s strongest presence ever as we celebrated 50 years of innovation with machines engineered to hold micron-level accuracy, powerful lights-out production, and advanced technology designed for industries where precision is non-negotiable: aerospace, medical, mold and die, and beyond.

High-Precision Sinking

The AP30L is our most precise sinker to date. This oil-based machine features total thermal stability through a full-cabin option that closes off the workpiece from ambient air, eliminating thermal drift that compounds over long machining cycles. Paired with Sodick’s rigid linear motors, the AP30L holds accuracy from the first cut to the last hour of a lights-out run.

Micron-Level Wire Cutting

The AX350L Wire EDM delivers micron-level precision with thermal displacement correction and iGroove+ wire rotation built in. The wire electrode rotates continuously throughout the cut, keeping the cutting surface fresh and consistent while reducing wire consumption by up to 30%. For shops doing tight-tolerance work in mold cavities, medical components, or aerospace profiles, the consumables savings alone are worth the conversation.

Lights-Out Small Hole Drilling

The K3BL Small Hole EDM drills from 80 microns to 3mm with micron-level accuracy. The 18-station ATC option lets the machine switch electrode sizes automatically during a run. The 15-station ATC with Automatic Electrode Feeder goes further, cycling through multiple sizes without any operator involvement; purpose-built for unattended production.

AltForm’s US Debut

The Print Brilliance 400 made its North American debut at IMTS 2026. Demonstrated alongside Sodick’s advanced machining solutions, the system highlighted its ability to produce complex metal parts with high precision and reduced material waste. Strong interest from visitors underscored the growing role of additive manufacturing in supporting more efficient, flexible, and integrated production environments.

Also featured on the floor: the ALN600G iGE+ Wire EDM, AL60G+ Sinker EDM, UX450L High Speed Mill, and the SZ25.

High-Speed Mill + SZ25 + Sinker EDM: A Lights-Out Manufacturing Cell

At IMTS, we showcased the UX450L high-speed mill, SZ25 transfer robot, and AL60G+ sinker EDM as a fully integrated manufacturing cell. The demonstration showed how electrodes can be machined on the UX450L and automatically stored and transferred by the SZ25 to the AL60G+ for EDM operations, creating a streamlined process with minimal operator intervention.

By combining electrode production, automated handling, and precision EDM in a single cell, visitors were able to see a practical example of how manufacturers can improve efficiency, increase unattended machining time, and maintain consistent part quality throughout the production process.

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Sodick, a global leader in precision manufacturing technology, today announced the U.S. availability of AltForm advanced metal additive manufacturing systems backed by Sodick’s North American sales and service. The announcement marks a significant expansion of Sodick’s additive manufacturing portfolio and brings AltForm’s highly customizable laser-based machines to aerospace, defense, power generation, and industrial manufacturers across the United States. AltForm will make its IMTS debut at Booth 338640, where the company’s flagship Print Genius 400, its largest dual-laser powder bed fusion system, will be on display.

Rebranded from Prima Additive and operating as a Sodick company since 2024, AltForm brings with it a deep legacy in laser science and industrial additive manufacturing. Originally the additive division of the Prima Industrie Group, the AltForm team maintained its engineering identity and product roadmap through the transition — and now, backed by Sodick’s commercial reach and U.S. service capabilities, is positioned to serve the North American market for the first time at industrial scale.

AltForm’s product portfolio spans two core technology platforms built to work in concert: the Print Series for fine-detail, high-precision parts, and the ZENIT Cell for large structural components and repair work — giving aerospace and defense manufacturers a complete additive solution under one roof.

AltForm’s defining characteristic is customization. Rather than selling from a fixed catalog, the company designs each system around the customer’s production requirements, materials, and facility layout, then pairs it with an AI-integrated human machine interface (HMI) that provides real-time parameter guidance and process optimization. Sodick will maintain critical spare parts inventory in the United States to support uptime and minimize lead times.

The lineup is built for industries where material performance and geometric complexity are non-negotiable: aerospace and defense, power generation, energy, oil and gas, and advanced industrial manufacturing. For aerospace and defense, printing reactive alloys such as titanium and producing large structural components is a competitive necessity, and the ZENIT Cell repairs high-value tooling and rotational parts such as turbine blades.

“Bringing AltForm to the U.S. market through Sodick’s infrastructure is a natural extension of our commitment to delivering complete, high-performance manufacturing solutions. AltForm’s customization-first philosophy and laser expertise complement everything Sodick stands for, and we believe U.S. manufacturers in aerospace, defense, and power generation will see immediately what these machines can do for their most demanding applications.”

— Joshua Ramirez, Additive Applications Specialist, Sodick

Why Linear Motor Milling is a Game Changer

In precision machining, motion control is everything. The difference between linear motor-driven milling and traditional ball screw-driven systems is not just about speed—it’s about long-term accuracy, efficiency, and machine longevity.

Ball Screw vs. Rigid Linear Motor: What’s the Difference?

Traditional milling machines rely on ball screw-driven motion systems, which use a threaded shaft and ball bearings to convert rotary motion into linear movement. While this method has been widely used, it introduces inherent mechanical limitations.

Ball and Screw Limitations

Sodick’s rigid linear motor drive system eliminates these limitations entirely. Instead of relying on physical contact, our machines use magnetic fields to generate smooth, frictionless motion, ensuring absolute positioning accuracy with zero mechanical wear.

Linear Motor Benefits

The UX Series takes this proven technology even further—incorporating enhanced thermal stability, advanced cooling systems, and optimized machine rigidity.

The result? Unmatched repeatability, better part finishes, and the confidence that your machine will perform with the same accuracy for years to come—no mechanical wear, no compromise, just precision machining at its finest.
