Built for complexity.
Engineered for precision.

Our Sinker EDMs are powered by flat rigid linear motor technology and advanced discharge circuits developed entirely in-house. From small precision shops to large-scale production environments, there’s a Sodick Sinker EDM built for your application.

AG Series
High Precision, User-Friendly, No Flush CNC Sinker EDMs
ALG+ Series
The new AL40G+, AL60G+, AL80G+, and AL100G+ are the next-generation die-sinker EDM that fuses discharge control technology carefully nurtured since the foundation of the company, advanced flat rigid linear motor control technology developed over 20 years, and the latest artificial intelligence (AI).

10-year positioning accuracy guarantee

Unlike ball screw motors, which wear out and lose accuracy over time, our rigid linear motors have no mechanical contact, eliminating wear and periodic maintenance. We stand by this and guarantee 10 years of unwavering positioning accuracy for our Wire and Sinker EDMs, with no machining limits.

Near-zero electrode wear

Electrodes are one of your biggest ongoing costs in sinker EDM. Our patented SVC Circuit controls voltage throughout the discharge process to minimize electrode wear. Fewer electrodes per job means lower material costs, fewer setups, and less room for human error.

Arc-less discharge technology

Arcing is the enemy of cycle time and workpiece integrity. Our Arc-less circuit eliminates arc machining at the source, reducing cycle time, extending electrode life, and protecting the surface finish of your workpiece.

Up to 30% lower
energy consumption

Sodick Sinker EDMs consume up to 30% less energy than conventional EDMs. For high-production shops running machines around the clock, this can significantly reduce your operating costs.

Ideal applications

Mold and die

Tight tolerances, complex cavity geometry, and surface finish requirements that can’t be compromised. Our Sinker EDMs are a staple in mold shops for exactly these reasons.

Aerospace components

Turbine features, airfoil profiles, and structural components with no margin for error. Our machines deliver the repeatability and accuracy that aerospace requires.

Medical devices and implants

Surgical instruments, orthopedic implants, and precision device components demand surface quality and dimensional accuracy that our Sinker EDMs are designed to achieve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Sinker EDM uses a shaped electrode, typically graphite or copper, to erode material from a workpiece submerged in dielectric fluid. Controlled electrical discharges between the electrode and workpiece remove material with micron-level precision, forming cavities and geometries that mirror the electrode shape. There is no mechanical contact between the tool and workpiece, which means no cutting forces, no deflection, and no mechanical stress on even the hardest conductive materials.

Any electrically conductive material, including hardened tool steels, carbide, titanium, superalloys, and copper alloys. Sinker EDM is particularly valuable for materials that are too hard or too brittle for conventional cutting, making it the go-to process for mold and die work, aerospace components, and medical manufacturing.

The SVC Circuit is Sodick’s proprietary voltage control technology built into every Sinker EDM. It achieves near-zero electrode wear (below 0.06%) while enabling a no-polish surface finish on complex geometries. For mold makers, this means less time polishing, fewer electrodes consumed, and faster cycle times compared to conventional machines.

At two levels: machine technology and process efficiency. The SVC Circuit minimizes electrode wear by controlling the discharge process precisely, while the Arc-less circuit prevents the kind of uncontrolled arcing that damages electrodes and workpieces on conventional machines. Together, these technologies reduce the number of electrodes required per job and cut down on rework.

Sodick guarantees that the positioning accuracy of its flat rigid linear motor drives will not change within 10 years. Because our linear motors have no mechanical contact and no ball screws to wear, accuracy doesn’t drift the way it does on conventional machines. The guarantee applies to all Sodick Wire and Sinker EDMs with no limits on machining time. Learn more at sodick.com/about/10-year-guarantee.

Yes. Every purchase includes a three-day training course for two operators, covering machine and control layout, programming with LN Assist, cutting conditions, tool changer operation, and machine maintenance. The goal is to have your operators running complex jobs with confidence as quickly as possible.

Because Sodick Sinker EDMs use flat rigid linear motors instead of ball screws, there are no mechanical drive components to service or replace. Routine maintenance covers dielectric fluid management, filter changes, and standard upkeep. The machines are designed for long-term reliability with minimal downtime.
